Finding Evan Ratliff

Wired Magazine wanted to know if it's possible to just disappear and start a new life somewhere else. They promised their writer, Evan Ratliff, $3000 if he could stay hidden for a month, and they promised the internet crowd $5000 if they could find him.

It turns out that social media sites like Facebook and Twitter played a very big role in the hunt. The story is long but well worth reading.

Idea Killers

This is a very clever ad campaign for independent film group called "Show Off". The ads illustrate how good ideas can be killed by showing a famous historical or fictional situation. It's designed by Marcelo Lourenco and Pedro Bexiga with illustrations of Scott Campbell.

Steak Filter v0

This is a pretty cool work of art by Noah Feehan. A video of a big steak cooking is recorded and sent through the steak itself to a tv screen displaying the steak. As the steak looses moisture the signal gets weaker.

The video is pretty boring but it's a cool idea.

Mandelbulb - A 3D version of the Mandelbrot fractal

Mandelbrot is probably the most famous fractal. 20 years ago the mathematician and science-fiction writer Rudy Rucker came up with the idea of a 3D-version of the mandelbrot fractal. At that time the computers had a hard time to even render the simple 2D fractal. But now the computers are faster and some math genius also found a way to render the 3D-version faster so here it is, the Mandelbulb.

Tap water in Russia is pretty dirty but after travelling through this pretty complex system it becomes drinkable.

PacMan with Vacuum cleaners
